Home / Temporary exhibition: ‘Women joined the fray’: 14/06/2021 - 15/12/2021
During the First World War, the role of women had experienced changes that would last forever more. The war had forced a huge number of them to leave home to get a job and this in a society dominated entirely by men. As a result, emancipation was born on different levels and in all areas.
Our next exibition will be highlighting this topic from the achievements of a unique character: Léonie Keingiaert de Gheluvelt. In 1921, she became the first Belgian female mayor in Geluveld, a borough of Zonnebeke in present times.
