During the First World War, the role of women had experienced changes that would last forever more. The war had forced a huge number of them to leave home to get a job and this in a society dominated entirely by men. As a result, emancipation was born on different levels and in all areas.

Our next exibition will be highlighting this topic from the achievements of a unique character: Léonie Keingiaert de Gheluvelt.  In 1921, she became the first Belgian female mayor in Geluveld, a borough of Zonnebeke in present times.

Location: MMP1917, Berten Pilstraat 5a, 8980 Zonnebeke
Opening hours: from Monday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with last admission at 4.30 p.m. However, bear in mind to better start your visit at 4.00 p.m. to make the most of it.
