Virtual tour 24 - trenches

Today we take you to our reconstructed trenches and the original American emergency house with these pictures. The museum’s elaborate network of German and British trenches which visitors can walk through shows the evolution their construction undergoes on both sides of the conflict as the war draws on. The original house of American origin in the museum dates from 1922 and is built by the Plets family in Wevelgem. These houses are not meant to last a long time, but nonetheless many of them prove useful for a fair number of years. The father of the family, Joseph Plets even lived in the one in the museum until 1978.
