Description:
The 'glengarry' was worn by the Scottish regiments until the beginning of WW I. The 'glengarry' is a dark blue woolen cap with a red pompom, often with the motif characteristic of the unit or regiment. This traditional headdress was replaced in 1915 by the 'balmoral', a similar bonnet, but in dark blue or khaki. In the same year, the 'Tam-o-Shanter' is worn, also in khaki color. All these headdresses have a cap badge representing their regiment. Here's a glengarry with the cap badge of the Royal Scots (Lothian) Regiment.
