My Grandpa Walter Ellis was gased at Hell Fire corner on the 15th July 1917. He was buried at China Wall cemetary at Zillebeke. He was killed laying a Railway tract up to the front for the Battle of Passendale. My Husband and myself will be in Leper for that date. I would like to thank the War Graves Commision for the up keep of the Graves and also the British Legion who paid for my mother education. Mum lost her Grandma in the March 1917 with the Flu , then her mother died in April 1917 of the Flu . Walter came home for the funeral and took mum to his brother to look after her until the end of the war. He never returned, my mum is 93 in November. Luckly I have letters he sent and a photo in uniform , also his Death Penny. I am so proud of him, and wished mum and I had known him.
